Fri, 07 Oct 2016 03:33:19 +0000 en-US hourly 1 FIFA 14 Previewhttp://www.inmotiongaming.com/fifa-14-preview/ http://www.inmotiongaming.com/fifa-14-preview/#comments Thu, 18 Apr 2013 02:47:58 +0000 http://www.inmotiongaming.com/?p=6053 ]]> EA Sports are back with their twenty-first strike at the soccer game genre. Last year they brought a lot of new and interesting improvements to the long-lived franchise with FIFA 13, from intelligent defending and attacking to more realistic first touches and player ball control. FIFA 13, all things considered, felt like a well polished game and was much more realistic to boot. So, what could EA possible do to make FIFA 14 worthy of our hard earned cash? Well, quite a bit apparently.

The first big change seems to be the introduction of ‘Pure Shot’. This is being heralded as an innovation to how players shoot on goal. Apparently, shooting has been transformed since the last game, giving players the intelligence to adjust their stride, positioning and timing to strike the ball with precision. It seems as though this will make striking the ball more accurate and realistic, leading to more satisfying goals and, most likely, devastating misses. This also seems to go hand in hand with the new ‘real ball physics’, meaning that a well struck shot will leave the soccer ball flying through the air like an arrow and a poor shot will leave it bobbling around the pitch.

EA have also stated that players will now be able to ‘protect the ball’ to help dictate and control play in midfield. This is a welcome addition to the FIFA series. It was something that they attempted with the realistic dribbling and close control of FIFA 13, but it was far too easy to barge the players out of possession. This often left midfield feeling over crowded, with as much free space as my six year old 20GB XBOX hard drive (not much space at all). Hopefully, now players like Arsenal’s Wilshire, Juventus’s Pirlo and Barcelona’s Iniesta will actually be able to control play, make powerful runs and pick those characteristic pinpoint passes with enough room to swing a proverbial cat.

In previous FIFA titles, scouting was incredibly passive, allowing your scout to jet to far off lands and bring back players like some exotic animal that was best seen and not used. These players often took an age to improve and were never really overly useful for the team. Now it seems as though the players you’ll be bringing in could have a real effect on your squad. Hopefully this will enable you to choose players with attributes that will actually help refine and boost your squad rather than just sit on the bench, sucking away at your precious budget. Finally, EA have promised that AI players will have attacking and defending intelligence. Now, this was a change that they initially brought to FIFA 13 but, sadly, it wasn’t overly effective. Players did seem slightly more intelligent, true, but they still made idiotic mistakes that, in professional soccer, would leave a player benched – probably for eternity.

FIFA 14 Preview

It looks like FIFA 14 is shaping up to be the best the series will have ever offered. I’m pretty sure that I said that in last year’s FIFA preview. Keep an eye on inMotion Gaming for all of the latest information on EA’s next instalment to the FIFA series.

Dead Island: Riptide Previewhttp://www.inmotiongaming.com/dead-island-riptide-preview/ http://www.inmotiongaming.com/dead-island-riptide-preview/#comments Mon, 08 Apr 2013 16:06:50 +0000 http://www.inmotiongaming.com/?p=5983 ]]> Release Date: 26 April 2013

Released in late 2011, Dead Island debuted to much hype because of its stunning trailer. Many players waited for the same gameplay and off-scale drama that the groundbreaking trailer exemplified. But the reality was far more prosaic. This was a marketing move, and had nothing in common with the game itself. Dead Island was a brutal, bloody action game, where the only priority was to destroy zombies with any materials at hand. No need to say that the plot and characters played only a minor role in all this carnage. However, this fact did not stop Dead Island from finding its fans and selling 5 million copies. But all those players who wanted to see drama in zombie apocalypse decorations has got it a year later from other developers.

In its essence, Dead Island: Riptide is the attempt of Polish studio Techland to show the world what the original game should have looked like: improved, with no bugs and other irregularities that plagued many gamers to fully enjoy the survival on the cursed island. To say it briefly, the developers promise us almost a “perfect Dead Island” with all the ensuing consequences. Only the absence of major gameplay changes hasn’t allowed them to add a number “2” to the title. At the same time, the amount of in-game content increases so much that you will unlikely call Riptide a simple addition.

Dead Island: Riptide Logo

No Escape

Dead Island: Riptide will continue the story of familiar characters established in the first game. Four survivors safely landed on the deck of a warship, but a nasty surprise waited for them instead of peace and respite. Not only did the military give them a very cold reception, but the nightmare from which they tried to escape from reached them again. The deadly infection that gives birth to zombies entered the ship, and soon the whole crew became infected. Enveloped by chaos and storm, the ship eventually loses control and crashes near a new tropical island.

Fate decided to play a cruel joke with the characters, having returned them to the usual decorations. Palanai, the setting of Riptide, looks uncannily like the island Banoi from the previous game: the same beaches, sea, sun and sand, and the walking dead out there, no less. Techland has stated that the new island will still have some distinctive features, such as the abundance of flooded spaces. The fact is that Palanai was badly damaged by monsoon rains. Even the island’s lone city, Henderson, was unable to avoid this natural disaster.

Dead Island: Riptide Zombie

Incessant rains have turned the tropics into a swamp, so the only convenient way to travel will be via boat. If you felt invincible in a car back in Dead Island and could scoff zombies as you wanted, that won’t work with a flimsy motorboat this time. In Riptide, the infected learn to cling aboard, interfere with your movements, and try to get inside. To avoid becoming an easy target, it is necessary to bat them down with oars or whatever makeshift weapons you could find. A bat studded with nails or a sharpened machete will be very useful in such moments.

Water will interfere with players greatly, while the living dead do not experience any discomfort of being in it. The developers decided to add a dynamic system of weather change to the game. For example, a heavy rain may suddenly appear, and it will be difficult for you to even see. A zombie may suddenly jump out of this rainy wall and attack you with its heartbreaking cries. Walking through knee-deep water slows all your movements down, and a ghoul in the river will definitely choose the worst possible moment to catch hold of your heel.

These are just small tricks of the ordinary infected, and you’ll get used to them eventually. But don’t forget about new zombies species too! As for now, the developers mentioned only a couple of new freaks: Grenadiers and Wrestlers. The former are covered with terrible abscesses, and they use them as grenades. Tearing away a hefty chunk of itself, a zombie will throw it straight in the direction of the players, and the explosion won’t be possible to avoid. But everything is much easier with a Wrestler. This is a massive, hulking thug with a hefty hypertrophied hand. He will shake the ground with his club and knock out anyone who comes too close.

Dead Island: Riptide Teamwork

Back to Hell

Gamers who are familiar with zombie invasions will find themselves in a familiar situation: the army of evil dead around and only one vague goal – to survive at any cost. And as we know, the easiest way to survive is a good company. Just like its predecessor, Riptide will be primarily designed for cooperation. You will have a great opportunity to gather a good team and go into a tropical hell once again. Moreover, the developers allow you to import all the characters you played as from the previous game.

All those players who prefer playing alone, or newbies who are just beginning their acquaintance with the series, won’t be left without attention too. They will be able to test a new character – John Morgan. John was a cook aboard the aforementioned military ship and joined the four survivors after the wreck. In general, he’s a really good guy: professional military, and a martial arts master.

Dead Island: Riptide Finisher

Dead Island: Riptide follows in the footsteps of the original game, and looks as if it just might a better experience. The landing on a tropical island will be held on April 26. Have a good time with friends and zombies!

Update: 3 April 2013

The demo for Injustice: Gods Among us is now live for the PS3 and Xbox 360! No word yet if Wii U players will get access to it. The demo contains playable versions of Batman, Wonder Woman, and Lex Luthor. Get it now to hold you over until Injustice’s April 16th release!

Original Article

When they hear that a game focused solely around super heroes is in the making, gamers tend to be skeptical. Developers continue to fail in meeting our expectations of superhero games and in doing so their efforts flop like a fish fresh out of water. Now, there are some great licensed games out there, such as the Batman Arkham games and Spider-Man Shattered Dimensions. However, they’re so few and far between that the term ‘superhero game’ is usually associated with something mediocre-to-terrible. Remember last year’s The Amazing Spider-Man?

Thankfully, NetherRealm Studios’ latest fighting game looks to defy that stereotype. It shows that it’s very much possible to have a game featuring our favorite heroes, which is both exciting and high in quality for a modern video game. This is Injustice: Gods Among Us.

Injustice: Gods Among Us Title

I may be putting a lot of faith in the success of this game, but the plentiful trailers and the genius idea of having the characters face each other in a tournament is doing wonders to build up hype leading up to the April 16th release. NetherRealm has had a lot of experience with fighting games with its successful Mortal Kombat franchise from before Midway Games filed for bankruptcy, and it isn’t their first time using DC characters either. They released the title Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe a few years ago, albeit to mixed results. Fans were psyched about pitting Mortal Kombat characters against popular superheroes such as Superman, but in the end were disappointed by the lack of violence that the Mortal Kombat brand is known for. NetherRealm learned from their fans and are making a second attempt; one that will hopefully satisfy both comic fans and Mortal Kombat vets alike.

DC still prohibits NetherRealm from using that Mortal Kombat brand of graphic violence when it comes to their characters–no decapitations, no fatalities, and no unique ways of splitting someone in two. You might think that puts a damper on NetherRealm’s signature violence, but they’ve come up with a new style of action that will not only keep everything just as intense, but fits the concept of super heroes fighting each other like a glove. For what it lacks in over-the-top violence, Injustice reciprocates with crazy jaw-dropping action.

When first seeing a fight in progress, you can definitely tell this is a NetherRealm game. The characters and environments are realistic and dark, every punch is felt as it connects, and the familiar HUD is in the corner, containing a bar that fills up with each attack landed and taken. However, underneath the familiar exterior are several new mechanics that make Injustice stand on its own from other games in the fighting genre. All the characters–heroes and villains–are split into two different classes: Power characters and Gadget characters. Power characters are the over-powered fighters who can throw cars like cardboard boxes, while Gadget characters rely on their speed, agility, and as their name states, gadgets, to take down opponents. The one question that everyone has been asking is how can someone like Batman stand a chance against, say, Superman in a fight? There’s definitely a reason for the balance among the characters, but NetherRealm hasn’t revealed what it is, as it’s likely an important plot point. Just know that there’s a reason for everything. Check out the video below for the official Injustice story trailer.

From what we can tell so far, the story revolves around the ‘human’ characters standing up against the superheroes. The why of it all is beyond me, but the circumstance is uniting heroes and villains to form a resistance. Hopefully the story is stronger than NetherRealm’s previous games, as that’s been a constant downside to their games for years.

Let’s get down to the gameplay. From what you can tell from the videos, the game seems to focus on being equally entertaining and jaw-droppingly epic. This is evidenced by the way you can utilize the environment to your advantage. Power characters can smash cars over their opponent’s head, while gadget characters can use cars to hop behind their adversaries. Lasers, rockets, robots, portals; just about anything can be used to turn the tide of a fight. Stages are much more than a couple of tricks though. Characters can be smacked straight through a wall, floor or ceiling if hit hard enough. This commences a cringe-worthy (and sometimes hilarious) sequence showing the character hitting objects and hazards before landing in a whole new area of the stage.

If you watched the videos above, you may have noticed the insane moves that the characters pulled off. When you fill up your battle meter all way, you can perform what’s called a ‘super move’, which naturally deals a copious amount of damage. I’m not going to announce any of them, because they’re such a blast to watch for the first time, but that’s just one of the things you can spend your battle meter on.

If you have at least one segment filled, you can use the classic combo breaker to get out of a nasty situation. Or, you can initiate an epic clash between the characters, which has the players bet a certain amount of their bar. Whoever bets the most wins the clash and gets significant damage dealt to their opponent.

Netherealm has a knack for having lots of characters, and a healthy amount of bonus content outside of the story and multiplayer. Injustice is no exception! So far twenty-two characters have been announced, with potentially more on the way. Also count on there being tons of collectibles and minigames to play on the side from the main story.

Injustice: Gods Among Us Cyborg vs. Batman

Injustice: Gods Among Us comes out April 16th and it’s building up a lot of hype. What do you think? Does it look like a smash hit, or a dud? We at inMotion Gaming love to hear from our readers, so leave a comment below and give us your opinion!

Dishonored Previewhttp://www.inmotiongaming.com/dishonored-preview/ http://www.inmotiongaming.com/dishonored-preview/#comments Sat, 06 Oct 2012 22:44:14 +0000 http://www.inmotiongaming.com/?p=5393 ]]> Dishonored has been flying a bit under the radar when compared to other games coming out this holiday season. Published by Bethesda Softworks and developed by Arkane Studios, Dishonored is a first-person stealth experience with some RPG elements sprinkled in for good measure. Though designed to reward those who use stealth with an easier experience, Dishonored leaves the choice up to the player, and lets them live with the consequences.

Dishonored Preview

The story- at least what’s been revealed- is as straightforward as can be. We’ll be filling the shoes of Corvo Attano, the legendary bodyguard of the Empress, whom he’s just been framed for murdering. He escapes to find a mysterious being called the Outsider, who decides to help Corvo exact revenge on those who conspired against him by granting him the ability to use magic. The lack of details leaves room for the unknown, so expect the plot to thicken as you chip away at the names on your hit list.

Corvo has the motivation and the determination to get even, but that’s not going to help him if he just kicks down the door and takes on a hundered guards head-on. He has the title of legend and a wealth of experience under his belt, which makes him a deadly opponent, but he still needs to take a more stealthy approach to his objective. Luckily, Dishonored takes place in the fictional city of Dunwall; a dark, damp, rat infested city full of sickness and corruption.

Dishonored Corvo Attano

In Dunwall, the poor suffer in filth and plague as the rich live above them in their heavily guarded mansions indulging their desires. Each mission starts Corvo out in the general area of his target’s position in the city; leaving the player to decide how to get there. This is where the true beauty of Dishonored comes into play; you can do things however you want to. You can take to the rooftops, or utilize the darkness of the alleys to get to the objective, there’s a wealth of options at your disposal.

The same goes for when you get to the objective. Say the target’s on the top floor of his mansion, and there are guards patrolling everywhere. There are several ways you can get into that mansion unnoticed. You can pick the lock on the cellar door, find an unlocked window, or even break in upstairs if you’re an impatient soul. The game was designed for stealth, but you can still go Rambo and kill everyone. That’s why the developer added a “Chaos” system. The more collateral that you rack up during the course of the game, the higher the chaos becomes. Rats will be everywhere, targets will bolster their security with more muscle, and things will just get sketchy.

Dishonored Golden Cat Gameplay Walkthrough Demo – Part 1

Dishonored Golden Cat Gameplay Walkthrough Demo – Part 2

While sticking to the shadows and silently picking guards off with his dagger are all he really needs, Corvo has been blessed with magical abilities by the Outsider. These powers bring to mind the Tonics from Bioshock, though all you need is mana to use them. There will be six active powers, four enhancements (passive abilties), and forty “bone charms” which grant you a perk when worn, though only three can be equipped at a time.

Announced powers include: Dark Vision, which allows you to see enemies through walls and also the amount of noise you’re making; Blink, which is used to teleport a short distance; Possession, which allows you to temporarily possess other humans or animals; Devouring Swarm summons a horde of rats which attack opponents; Time Bend freezes time; Wind Blast enemies flying with a gust of wind; and finally Shadow Kill, which turns dead enemies into ash so they won’t be discovered by other guards.

You’ll need to be smart in how you handle your mana bar though, because powers can use it up quickly, and you’ll only have so many potions on you to replenish it. That’s why fighting your way through a level is a bit of a gamble, because you’ll need to use a lot more of your supplies to survive. When your powers aren’t an option you have an assortment of weapons to help you out of a tight spot.

Dishonored Gameplay Trailer: Creative Kills Video

Dishonored comes out October 9th, and I am personally eager to get my hands on it. While other games will be bringing back something we’ve all experienced, Dishonored will be delivering a fresh experience that we’ll all be talking about months after its release.

Hitman: Absolution Previewhttp://www.inmotiongaming.com/hitman-absolution-preview/ http://www.inmotiongaming.com/hitman-absolution-preview/#comments Fri, 21 Sep 2012 01:01:39 +0000 http://www.inmotiongaming.com/?p=5123 ]]> After six long years the newest title in the long running Hitman series of stealth-based games is finally getting a release on consoles and PC. The beloved anti-hero Agent 47 is returning this November in Hitman: Absolution. This time, he’s out for revenge against those who betrayed him. Agent 47’s return is much more lethal this time around with a more serious story, and new features for players to enjoy.

Hitman: Absolution Title

The Hitman series has always been about killing your target in creative and silent ways, and doing so has become a test for some gamers, as the slightest mess up could cause a restart of the whole level. Absolution will be much more forgiving–if you mess up there are checkpoints throughout the level to give you a chance to try something new to achieve your goals. Along with a mixture of an old and new health system, players will regenerate some of their health but will need to hunt down health stations to fully heal Agent 47. This is to retain the feeling of the Hitman series while not losing the challenge gamers have come to know from series’ difficult levels. These new features will be extremely welcomed, as the new levels of Absolution are much bigger than its previous counterparts.

Hitman: Absolution Sneak Attack

Bigger levels mean more choices of how to get your objectives fulfilled. So far only a couple of maps have been shown off; one portion of the game will be set in Chicago, and a Chinatown-like level has been displayed in screenshots released so far. Another revealed map has been a place called Streets of Hope. This small town looks like it was ripped straight from the fifties, complete with old cars, barbershop hangouts, and Fonzie-esque gangsters abound. The map shows a lot of different paths for players to take. You can be ruthless and take out anyone in your way, or take your time and use your head to find a way around innocents. You can trigger objects within the environment to distract NPCs to get around them, making your life a little easier. You can spend hours in these levels, doing recon, learning enemy paths, or finding new ways to kill your target. And now with the checkpoint system you don’t have to lose your hard-earned game-time you’ve put into the level.

Video: Tools of the Trade Trailer

As in previous games in the series there are many ways to take out your target, however there are even more than before in Absolution. You can go old fashioned and use your custom made weapons to charge with guns blazing, or find a more stealthy way around guards and civilians to get to your target. Absolution is adding a lot more weapons to play around with, giving you the option to find a personal favorite among the many varieties–from melee to sniper rifles and everything in between. Most of the time you don’t even need to have a weapon on you. The environment can be the biggest weapon you have. Special points around the world can be used against the enemies, along with finding weapons in even the most random of places, such as a plunger from the bathroom.

Hitman: Absolution Chokehold

Some of Agent 47’s new skills are quite useful to make your way through a map. While using pistols or sub-machine guns you can dual wield them to gain more firepower but lose precision. A single handgun will give you more accuracy but will lose the rate of fire coming from wielding two weapons. Taking inspiration from Splinter Cell: Conviction, Agent 47 can now stop time and choose a varied amount of targets around him to take out. Time will slow and each enemy will be taken out with precision in slow motion. IO Interactive is bringing the art of sniping to a whole new level this time around as well. Now while using a sniper rifle, players can make use of controlling Agent 47’s breathing to allow for more accurate shots.

Hitman: Absolution Chinatown

IO Interactive is trying to make this Hitman one of the best yet by throwing in some well-tested new features. Instinct Mode is replacing the Map this time around. This is reminiscent of Detective Mode from Batman: Arkham City. Instinct allows Agent 47 to see the position and paths of enemies within his general area. This new feature could be a little overkill for some players, but to counteract this IO has thrown in a Purist Mode that disables Instinct and the HUD. The HUD will show the status of 47’s targets, whether they are alive, dead, or unconscious. Another great feature coming to Absolution is the option to fake surrender. When a guard moves close to Agent 47 he can take them as a human shield. This will make for some epic moments during gameplay.

Along with all these amazing gameplay changes coming to Absolution, the story will receive a big overhaul as well. IO is trying to create a realistic and dramatic world while not sacrificing the fun that comes from playing a Hitman game. This time around there will be more cutscenes to move the story along, as well as the ability to stop and listen to characters to get hints about where the story is going. A bigger and better story will make a lot of people happy while playing Absolution, as the story of Agent 47 has always been a much loved one. Now it will get even deeper and bring out a whole new side of the deadly assassin.

Video: Saints Trailer

Absolution has drawn a lot of controversy since its announcement. Specifically the Saints trailer, which showcases a group of female assassins coming to take out Agent 47. Critics and fans alike have called it a display of misogyny and sadism. However much criticism the trailer has brought, though, it has also done a great job of marketing Hitman: Absolution. The trailer did a good job of showing off Hitman, making it a game to watch among many. Hopefully these are the types of cinematics we can expect from the final game.

For those interested in pre-ordering the game some great bonuses await. The Sniper Challenge will be unlocked when you pre-order any version of the game, letting players test out some gameplay and try out the new sniping features in a small level. Some other great things include a sniper rifle in-game if you pre-order from GameStop, from Steam you will receive three new weapons, a 72 page art-book and a Making Of video if you spring for the Professional Edition.

Hitman: Absolution Preorder

Hitman: Absolution will be out on November 20th, just in time for the holiday season. We will have to see if Hitman can contend with the big releases that always come out around the holidays. Keep an eye on the game as it gets closer to its release date.

Borderlands 2 Previewhttp://www.inmotiongaming.com/borderlands-2-preview/ http://www.inmotiongaming.com/borderlands-2-preview/#comments Mon, 17 Sep 2012 09:30:19 +0000 http://www.inmotiongaming.com/?p=4981 ]]> Having Fun with Guns the Second Time Around!

Gearbox Software’s hit “space western first-person shooter” Borderlands is back for another round, promising you more guns, more loot and more action. The western themed, bandit-ridden, monster crawling world of Pandora is still offering prospective vault hunters the opportunity to make a killing, both figuratively and literally. But with the initial Borderlands title being loved for its quirky nature there really can’t be much more that Gearbox can add. Still, Borderlands 2 is promising that same unique nature that fans grew to love as well as a fistful of new and updated content. Oh, and a lot more guns. We can’t forget the guns.

Borderlands 2 Logo

It seems that Gearbox have opted for slight changes with this sequel rather than a major overhaul, and why wouldn’t they? There’s no need to fix it if it isn’t broken. The first difference can be found in the class system. Although the base follows similar lines as the original title, Borderlands 2 offers the player a much more intricate skill tree. This will hopefully enable better developed characters allowing players to customize their class to suit their playing style. No matter what, the Commando will still be the tech-class, the Gunzerker will be the tank-class, the Siren will be the power-class and the Assassin will be the rogue-class. However the improved skill tree promises to allow players to create their own specifically designed sub-class. Perhaps you like playing sneakily but enjoy a bit of hand to hand combat, the skill tree will hook you up. Your class may no longer be considered a boundary as Gearbox promises a class to cater for any playing style.

Borderlands 2 also offers a host of mini skill based challenges which will allow for greater character customization and development. This will be based on statistics such as number of kills, headshots, shot accuracy and the like. All of these challenges will add up allowing the player to improve such attributes as reload speed and weapons damage. Initially the tokens received from these challenges are relatively small, but as you tot them all up, they will make a real difference to the potency of your character.

Borderlands 2 Gunzerker Skills

Story wise little differs from the original title. You will be playing as four new vault hunters; Axton, Zero, Salvador and Maya, and I really don’t think I need to tell you what you’ll be doing. Well if you don’t know, you’ll be vault hunting. Well vault hunting and trying to gain one over on the crew’s enemy, Handsome Jack. The second instalment does seem to offer more of a story for your money. One nagging issue that I had with the first Borderlands game was that I was never really sure of what I was doing. There was no real structure to the story and it often just divulged into looting for lootings sake. Not that this was a problem, there’s nothing I love more than stumbling across a cool new gun. Have I mentioned the guns yet? How could I have passed them over! Gearbox have promised a,

“New Badass Gun System” with “Millions upon millions of possible weapons”

There have been reports of 87 bazillion possible gun combinations. That’s a lot of guns. More guns than Rambo keeps in his lock-up I’d imagine. The gun collection was one of the best factors of the original title. There was no better feeling than stumbling upon a new, more awesome gun. But there was always a special place in my heart for my favourite gun. I’m afraid the other 86.999 bazillion guns will have to wait their turn. Borderlands 2 not only promises a tonne of guns but it also heralds the return of co-operative play at its best. Borderlands can be played split-screen, online and via a LAN connection. What’s the point in finding bazillions of guns if you can’t share them with your friends?

Borderlands 2 Gunfight

Borderlands 2 is setting up to be a fantastic addition to Gearbox’s repertoire. Although it isn’t offering much in the realm of “new” it is still offering a return to the key fundamentals that so many fell in love with. Plus a few extra bits to keep us all on the edge of our seats in anticipation for its September 18th release.

Call of Duty: Black Ops II Previewhttp://www.inmotiongaming.com/call-of-duty-black-ops-ii-preview/ http://www.inmotiongaming.com/call-of-duty-black-ops-ii-preview/#comments Wed, 05 Sep 2012 22:29:14 +0000 http://www.inmotiongaming.com/?p=4807 ]]> Call of Duty is one of the biggest series in gaming history, with millions of players and millions of copies sold across the franchise. Black Ops 2 will be the newest game in the Call of Duty family, and in doing so, will bring players further into the future than any other previously released game in the series.

Black Ops 2 is the sequel to the 2010 hit Call of Duty: Black Ops, developed by Treyarch Studios. Players will take on the role of David Mason, the son of Alex Mason, during the cyber-attack against the Chinese economy in the year 2025. The game will follow a story arc through the 1980s where players will play as Alex Mason, as well as 2025 as his son. Some of the known places players will fight their way through so far include Los Angeles, The Vault, Singapore, Yemen, and the Cayman Trench.

Call of Duty: Black Ops II Logo

Black Ops 2 will take a new turn in the series by following a less linear story than the other games. Treyarch has decided to take a non-linear and sandbox approach to the game, a la Skyrim. The campaign will rely on player choices heavily, giving significant decisions to make throughout the campaign that will change the course of the game in various ways. The choices will be expansive and not just your ordinary “A,B, or C”. In Black Ops 2, you won’t need to protect certain important characters as closely as you did in other games. If a character dies, their death can change how the future story comes out.

Along with these new story-telling changes, gamers can expect a large variety of new weapons, including futuristic takes on some old favorites and some completely new guns. A player favorite, the Tomahawk, will be making a return as well, albeit with a futuristic look to it. There will no more quick knifing, and now you will have to physically draw the knife as if it were any other weapon in the game to be able to use it. Some people won’t be happy about this change I am sure, but there will always be others ready to accept it and move on. Hopefully this change will bring along some extra balancing to the competitive world of Call of Duty multiplayer. Unmanned vehicles will also take a big part in this new game. This will allow players to take control of vehicles, jets, and robot cars.

Call of Duty: Black Ops II Alex

Treyarch is throwing in a special set of missions as a side to the campaign, called Strike Force. The missions will also have a sandbox-feel, and will play out like a Real Time Strategy game. The RTS elements have you playing as the commander, commanding the ground forces. You can also opt for the traditional FPS experience and fight in the battles yourself. If the player dies in Strike Force the game will not end or bring you back to a previous checkpoint, instead the game will go on and a record will be kept of all of your deaths. The player will take on the role of another soldier on the battlefield, keeping the flow of the game going.

One of the features a lot of fans are excited about is the return of Nuketown, this time dubbed Nuketown 2025. The player favorite from the original Black Ops will return, updated to be even better than the original. It will offer a multiplayer experience for those addicted to the fast paced run and gun gameplay for which the small map is famous for.

Call of Duty: Black Ops II Gunplay

Aside from the return of Nuketown, another fan favorite will be making a highly anticipated return–Zombies. Treyarch hasn’t released a whole lot of detail concerning its Zombies game mode yet, but a teaser of a welcome sign has been released, the sign reads Welcome to Nuketown Zombies, with bloody handprints and blood smears across it. This could be something to look forward to, as zombies on such a small map could make for some interesting scenarios. I am sure a lot of screaming and swearing are likely to ensue.

What is known about Zombies so far is that players will be able to enjoy larger maps to play around on. Treyarch is going to run Zombies on the same engine they use to run multiplayer, allowing them to use larger maps. Along with the larger maps being introduced, the player limit has been doubled to eight, allowing you and seven of your friends to team up and fight zombie hordes. You will need these extra teammates this time around as the number of zombies has been doubled as well, bringing more carnage and flesh-eating monsters to the table.

Call of Duty: Black Ops II Robotank

Perks will be returning in the multiplayer mode again, but Pro perks will no longer be available in Black Ops 2. There are three tiers of perks to choose out of.

Perk Tier One:

 • Flak Jacket- allows the player to take less damage from explosives.
 • Ghost- making a return to the series, Ghost allows you to be invisible to UAVs but only if you are moving this time around.
 • Blind Eye- makes players invisible to AI controlled killstreaks such as helicopters.
 • Lightweight- no more falling damage and you can move faster, but only to a small degree.
 • Hardline- makes it easier for you to get those killstreaks.

Perk Tier Two:

 • Scavenger- allows you to pick up ammo and grenades from dead enemies.
 • Hard-Wired- a new perk, working like Assassin Pro did, you will be immune to Counter UAV and EMPs.
 • Toughness- another new perk, players will flinch less when they get shot.
 • Cold Blooded- immunity to target finders, player controlled killstreaks, and Sensor Grenades.
 • Fast Hands- allows the player to use equipment faster, and safely throw back grenades.

Perk Tier Three:

 • Engineer- allows the player to see enemy equipment through walls, highlighting them in red.
 • Extreme Conditioning- the ability to spring longer distances.
 • Dead Silence- your footsteps are silent, good against those annoying players with amazing headsets.
 • Dexterity- Climbing like a monkey, faster latter and obstacle maneuvering.
 • Tactical Mask- reduced effect of stun and flash grenades, as well as shock charges.
 • Awareness- Allow you to hear enemy footsteps a lot louder and clearer than normal.

Some of these are returning favorites, and some not so much. New perks will give players something fun to try out and see what they like best.

Call of Duty: Black Ops II Dual Wield

Killstreaks are also going to play another big part in the Black Ops 2 multiplayer experience. This time around, kills are no longer the big currency of these fancy war machines. Now players will need to acquire points to buy different killstreaks. Some favorites are returning such as the care package, UAV, and sentry guns. Some new ones just for Black Ops 2 include the War Machine, a semi automatic grenade launcher; and the AGR, a bi-pedal robot that has machine guns and cannons attached to it. Killstreaks will require more and more points for the better ones in the game.

Reveal Trailer – Official Call of Duty: Black Ops 2

From the trailers released so far Black Ops 2 looks to be running on the same engine as Modern Warfare 3 did. Not to say that is a bad thing however, as Modern Warfare 3 was a beautiful game. Call of Duty has always tried to make an effort to keep as realistic as possible without sacrificing the fun gameplay the series has been known for. Black Ops 2 is no different, and the assortment of new features being added all look quite good. The cinematic experiences shown so far in videos have certainly caught a lot of people’s attention, throwing flaming vehicles into the players’ face nonchalantly. Graphically the game looks good enough–it doesn’t need to be improved to make it look any better than it already does.

For those addicted Call of Duty fans who want more out of their game purchase, a Hardened Edition will be available alongside the normal $59.99 version. Hardened will cost gamers $79.99 and feature a limited edition two sided steelbook, two collectible challenge coins, exclusive content for your system of choice, Nuketown zombies, Nuketown 2012 multiplayer map, exclusive weapon camo, and exclusive multiplayer and zombie player card backgrounds. That’s quite a bit of content for your money from the Hardened Edition. But for those wanting even more there is the Care Package edition for a whopping $179.99. This version comes with everything the Hardened Edition does as well as a remote controlled quadrotor drone and stand, official soundtrack, and a care package themed case to hold it all.

Call of Duty: Black Ops II Sexy Lady

Black Ops 2 is shaping up to be a Game of the Year-worthy title for 2012, with tons of features already known and more new content promised. Treyarch is going to give Modern Warfare 3 a run for its money and break some records of its own along the way. Make sure you pre-order Black Ops 2 as the game will be out November 13,2012. Make sure to get there early, as I am sure you will end up in a long line if you don’t.

FIFA Soccer ’13 Previewhttp://www.inmotiongaming.com/fifa-soccer-13-preview/ http://www.inmotiongaming.com/fifa-soccer-13-preview/#comments Wed, 29 Aug 2012 14:58:48 +0000 http://www.inmotiongaming.com/?p=4709 ]]> Twentieth Time’s the Charm!

The new soccer season has started once more and with it the anxieties for the next instalment from the FIFA series. In the past few years Electronic Arts’ FIFA series has had very little competition. Since the release of Pro Evolution Soccer 6 in 2007 FIFA has left its only competitor in its dust. In North America, on the 25th of September, the twentieth installment from the FIFA series will hit store shelves and if the past nineteen games are anything to go by, gamers are in for a treat. FIFA ‘12 has been dubbed one of the best soccer games of all time and rightly so as EA pulled out all the stops to make it something very special. But, after nineteen years of soccer simulating innovation, surely EA has run out of ideas? Well, if you thought that, you’d be wrong. FIFA Soccer ’13 is setting up to be better than its predecessors with lots of new features that have the potential to spark a great leap forward for the series.

FIFA Soccer '13 Logo

This year’s edition is set to be a real game changer all thanks to a few little tweaks and one new major addition. The biggest change–the introduction of skill games–is making any true FIFA fan excitedly shaking in their virtual soccer boots. This new game mode allows the player to participate in a number of skill based mini-games which promise to test even the most veteran analogue stick twiddler. Challenges in passing, dribbling, shooting, free kicks and penalty taking all offer to showcase FIFA’s improved Player Impact Engine.

In the previous title the subtle skills, manual passing and intelligent AI often went overlooked, even by hardcore gamers, in favour of running in an often uninterrupted straight line. It was much easier to score with a simple finesse shot from just outside the area than it was to play a pretty ball into the box. There was never any need to utilise the Player Impact Engine as the free flowing passing game was easily substituted for an out and out attacking play. EA has taken note of the success of FIFA Street’s dribbling mechanisms so that the players of FIFA ‘13 will now have a greater level of control over the ball. Ugly simplicity ruled the roost in FIFA ’12 but it seems that there is nothing simple about the new style of game play that FIFA ’13 promises to offer.

FIFA 13 | Gamescom 2012 Trailer

But it’s not just the new game mode itself that has FIFA fans aflutter, but what the mode suggests for the overall game play. The new game mode offers the opportunity for gamers to practice their skills in the arena and bring it all to life on the pitch. Long runs could be replaced by one touch passing. Simple shots might be replaced with pin-point strikes of beauty. The utilization of the Player Impact Engine gives gamers the opportunity to build an attack with seamless play rather than bundling the ball into the back of the net. This beautiful game could never be more beautiful, you’d think.

But there are other noteworthy changes which, all combined, bring this FIFA head and shoulders above the rest. EA has given away very little about the other game modes but, in a recent Q&A on Twitter, they answered a few questions about the new and improved Career Mode. Firstly they confirmed that the Player Manager option had been dropped. One of the better aspects of FIFA 12’s career mode was that you could control your pro on the pitch and in the board room but, in the long run, the move makes sense. Mostly because there are hardly any teams, if any at all, that actually have a player manager anymore. EA has also confirmed the reintroduction of international competitions to Career mode and hopefully the Tournament mode as well, though this is unconfirmed. This seems to be a welcome addition, though it may have a negative effect on how we manage our teams in FIFA ‘13.

FIFA Soccer '13 Jump

Why you ask? Well the last thing a manager wants is for his star player to be called up for international duty mid-season. So, depending on the competitions, perhaps some careful planning and intelligent transfers will be in order to help survive those trying times. Whilst we’re talking of transfers, one user asked if the EA spokesperson could explain the changes to the new transfer system. Their reply was that they

“Couldn’t possibly do that in 140 characters! Complete re-write. Will be much more authentic & lots of new features.”

A much more authentic transfer system you say? Maybe we’ll finally be able to have Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo on our favourite team. A dream that was almost impossible in FIFA ‘12 unless you played as Barcelona or Real Madrid as then, of course, the hard work has already been done for you.

FIFA 13 | Skill Games

The free kick mechanism has also had a fancy overhaul. The days of boring free kicks are over now that users can utilise three of their most skilful players to create dangerous and spectacular set pieces. Players have also been promised intelligent AI for both attacking and defending. The Player Impact Engine will allow defenders to push and pull for possession and for crafty attackers to capitalise on indecisive decisions and poor touches. Despite how good FIFA ’12 can be there are always a few aspects of the game that drive players to near insanity. Poor defending AI, misplaced passes, a lack of creative running, poor first touches, hacked players online, the list goes on. All annoyances lead to the same end–grinding teeth, biting nails, the pulling of hair and the breaking of controllers in frustration.

FIFA Soccer '13 Goal

However, FIFA ’13 promises to address these issues and much more. If everything turns out as promised, it’s looking like we’re in for an innovative season of soccer.

Halo 4 Previewhttp://www.inmotiongaming.com/halo-4-preview/ http://www.inmotiongaming.com/halo-4-preview/#comments Fri, 17 Aug 2012 08:36:03 +0000 http://www.inmotiongaming.com/?p=4567 ]]> Halo is one of those names that everyone knows about, whether they are gamers or not. Not from being infamously controversial (I’m looking at you, Grand Theft Auto), but for being an icon for gamers everywhere–selling millions upon millions of copies over the life of the series, and bringing us all together in the defense of humanity. We all have our memories of blasting the Covenant back into space as Master Chief, but the past couple games have diverged from our hero’s adventure, focusing more on the soldiers on the sidelines, or Spartans of the past. During these past five years many shooters have risen through the ranks, drawing our interest away from our beloved series. Well, John-117 is back, and he demands our full attention.

Halo 4 Chief Title

Bungie made a game truly fit for the tagline “Combat Evolved” by raising the standard for first person shooters everywhere. However, they have understandably decided they want to move on to other things. Enter 343 Industries, the new curators of the Halo universe, committed to taking the reigns from Bungie. Many Halo fans will no doubt approach Halo 4 with some skepticism, and that’s completely understandable.

Admittedly, there isn’t a crazy amount of information about the upcoming installment, but what can be found is exciting nonetheless. To start with, let’s recall the last time we saw Master Chief. Following the ending to Halo 3, we saw Chief in cryo-sleep on the remains of the UNSC frigate Forward Unto Dawn. In a trailer, we witnessed Cortana frantically waking him up while the ship is boarded by unknown assailants. As Chief grabs Cortana and makes his way out of the wreckage, he comes to an opening to be welcomed to the sight of what would appear to be an artificial planet. Halo 4 is set four years after the finale of Halo 3.

Somehow, they end up crash-landing on this planet that we will come to know as Requiem. Though thought to be artificial at first, it’s actually a planet encased in a shell. What this planet’s exact purpose is is still a mystery, though many rumors circulate the web. Is it an ancient weapon? Did the Forerunners need another planet to inhabit due to overpopulation? Maybe it was created so they could conduct experiments, or to survive the Halo rings. Who knows, but one thing is for sure: Requiem is not a friendly place. It runs rampant with a new and frightening enemy called the Prometheans.

What the mechanical Prometheans exactly are is unknown, but they have some connection to the Forerunners. They’re comprised of the Crawlers, Watchers, and Knights. The Crawlers are small quadrupeds (imagine orange, wingless, Drone units from previous games) that nimbly attack from different angles and in packs. Knights can easily be compared to the Elites. They’re quick, deadly, and smart; using different tactics to flank and outsmart you. Lastly are the Watchers, which can be dispatched by Knights and serve as defensive units. They heal their allies, can catch and return grenades Master Chief throws, and are a distraction away from the Knight, which opens you up for pot shots.

Halo 4 Vs Promethean

The Prometheans are rough, but you’ll have some old enemies dropping by for a fight as well. The Covenant are on Requiem, but for unknown reasons they’re attacking you on sight. Which is surprising since humanity had made peace with them four years ago. It seems Chief and Cortana missed a few things while they were away, and will have to catch up on recent events. Back on topic, there is one plus to fighting the Prometheans which cannot be denied: they have awesome weapons. Check out the E3 gameplay trailer for a look at Requiem, the Prometheans, and a couple of the weapons you’ll get to try out.

Video: Halo 4 Trailer (E3 2011)

As you saw, the weapons look beautiful as well as the world of Requiem. The Prometheans are going to definitely add a challenge to combat, and I’m excited about their addition to Chief’s shoot-on-sight list. Chief looks to have a couple new tricks himself. For one, he can finally sprint; and two, he has a new vision mode for which he can see Prometheans through walls and flora. Hardcore fans may be getting upset at all the changes that are being made, but the Halo formula, though still fun, was starting to get a little stale in my honest opinion. Fighting the same enemies for so long can do that, and I’m glad that 343 has the nerve to add in new enemies and weapons to spice up the Halo experience.

Halo 4 Clouds

That large ship crashing onto Requiem would be the UNSC Infinity: the most powerful warship to be deployed in Earth’s history. Originally built for the war against the Covenant, it was recommissioned for exploration and research. During its exploratory voyages, it had the misfortune of stumbling upon Requiem, and was subsequently sucked into its shell. This could mean Chief and Cortana won’t be completely alone while stranded, and may give us access to some new weapons and vehicles that have been developed the four years Chief was out of the action.

Halo 4 runs on a redesigned engine that was used for Halo Reach, and as you saw in the trailer the improvement is outstanding. It looks like the redesigned engine will be put through its paces too, as the world of Requiem looks massive and there’s going to be more of a focus on exploring rather than shooting your way from point A to point B. I for one am excited at the prospect of exploring Requiem and hunting enemies in the dense alien flora.

Halo 4 Spartan Profile

We’ve seen the shiny new guns, intimidating new enemies, and exciting new additions to gameplay. But what’s going on deeper in the plot of the story? Something in Halo lore that isn’t widely known is that “smart” AI have an average lifespan of seven years. After processing such massive amounts of information, they eventually start going rampant–the AI equivalent of insanity–and eventually die. As Halo 4 takes place after four years, Cortana must be starting to suffer from this inevitable process. This will no doubt put a strain on her and Chief’s relationship, as she spirals out of control. We can only hope that there’s something on Requiem that can save her, and maybe we’ll get a closer look at the man that is Master Chief in the process.

Single-player campaign isn’t the only game mode getting a makeover. 343 has completely revamped the Halo multiplayer experience. Firefight is not going to be in Halo 4, but the addition of the new Spartan Ops mode makes up for it.

Halo 4 Red vs Blue

Competitive multiplayer is exactly what you’d expect; various player vs. player matches consisting of several different game types. The difference? 343 has made it part of the story in the fact that all matches are actually battle training simulations on the Infinity. This also carries over into Spartan Ops; episodic cooperative missions that will be released weekly once the game is launched. Think of these as away missions. These missions further the story of the campaign while drawing players back week after week to complete them. Did I mention they’re free to play for Halo 4 owners? Having the multiplayer tied into the campaign will keep the players immersed in the Halo universe no matter the mode in which they play, as was the case for Mass Effect 3′s Galaxy at War multiplayer.

Whichever multiplayer mode you’re playing, you earn experience. Much like in Reach, this all goes to your Spartan where you can outfit him or her with new weapons, armor, and other customization options. There’s also the addition of a new loadout system. Rather than everyone starting out with the same weapons as is tradition, you can make yours specialize in various classes much like in Call of Duty or Battlefield. For a multiplayer experience as tried as Halo’s, this is definitely a game-changer. Check out the trailers below for a look at both the competitive multiplayer and the Spartan Ops.

Halo 4: War Games Multiplayer Gameplay Video

Halo 4 Spartan Ops Gameplay Video

Halo 4 is going to be a beast of a game. With a massive single-player campaign, the elaborate Spartan Ops missions, and the addicting multiplayer we should expect nothing less than greatness November 6th, so be sure to clear up your calendars.

Assassin’s Creed III Previewhttp://www.inmotiongaming.com/assassins-creed-iii-preview/ http://www.inmotiongaming.com/assassins-creed-iii-preview/#comments Wed, 08 Aug 2012 03:20:19 +0000 http://www.inmotiongaming.com/?p=4409 ]]> Ever since the first Assassin’s Creed, the games that followed used the same formula. Upon examination, there isn’t that much different between the games besides some tweaks here and there, and maybe some new weapons. Now, however, Ubisoft is delivering just what the series needs: a game-changer. Assassin’s Creed III, for the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC, is incoming on October 30th.

Assassins Creed III Logo Jump

Let’s start with our new protagonist. Meet Connor Kenway (birth name Ratonhnhake:ton). He’s half-English and half-Native American, which will undoubtedly cause some inner conflict in him given the game’s colonial-era setting. As is evidenced in the narrative he provides in a gameplay trailer:

On this land, I am torn. Part of me wants to fight and repel all outsiders. The other part of me is the outsider. In the name of liberty, I will fight the enemy regardless of their allegiance. While men of courage write history of this day, the future of our land depends on those who are truly free.

The reason for this conflict is that Connor is smack dab in the middle of the American Revolution. He has both sides in his blood as the settlers fight the British for freedom. Regardless of who’s fighting whom, Connor is an Assassin and he’s sworn to fight the Templar regardless of which side they’re on.

Assassins Creed III Frostbreath

There has been some controversy on this issue, as trailers have shown Connor killing mainly red coats, but the developers didn’t intend for him to favor killing the British at all. As I said before, Connor is out for the Templar whichever side they’re on.

Without a doubt, Connor’s going to be the most aggressive assassin we’ve ever played as. Combat no longer relies so heavily on the countering system we’ve all become accustomed to. Instead, it’s to be seen as a ‘combo opener’. Combos in Assassin’s Creed? Yes please! Thanks to the new two-handed fighting style Connor uses, he is a much more offensive fighter. Though blocking/countering still exists, it will not be nearly as effective as using your combos.

Connor can use anything he can get his hands on as a weapon, but it’s been made clear that he will hold weapons in his left hand and tools in his right. Weapons will be more hand-to-hand items like the tomahawk and the hidden blade, while tools will be items that can be used for several purposes. For instance, the bow and arrow or pistol can be used for fighting or hunting.

Assassins Creed III Redcoats

You know how in past Assassin’s Creed games, after about an hour you’ve seen all the kill animations the game has to offer? Ubisoft has addressed this problem by making kills contextual. They will be based on where the enemy is and what items Connor is using. Add the fact that you can do multiple assassinations, and combo kills, and I think we’re going to have a lot of jaw-dropping moments.

On that note, Ubisoft says that they’ve taken steps to make Assassin’s Creed III more accessible to newcomers. However, the point isn’t to make it overly easy, but to make it easier to pull off difficult actions. So in other words, it will be simple to do that awesome multi-kill the developer performed in the trailer for example.

Another welcome addition to combat is the running assault. For instance, say you’re chasing your target and a guard gets in your way. Normally you would think you would have to run around him, but now you can just cut him down where he stands without breaking stride. Check out the video below, it shows this very welcome maneuver in action. (Along with a peek at the Frontier )

Video: Assassin’s Creed 3 E3 Frontier Gameplay Demo [UK]

Awesome right? This goes to show that Ubisoft really is making many changes to make gameplay more accessible. Did you notice how Connor assassinated his target with the bayonet he snatched off the gun rack? Assassinations are no longer limited to the hidden blade, any weapon can be used.

Assassin’s Creed III will be utilizing the AnvilNext game engine. Environments will look more realistic, there will be dynamic weather and season changes, and Ubisoft boasts that you can encounter over 2,000 non-player characters in a single sequence. They’re also boasting that Connor is possibly the most detailed 3rd person hero ever created with 1,000 animations for his character alone. Check out the video below if you doubt me.

Video: Assassin’s Creed III AnvilNext Trailer [North America]

Connor won’t be alone on his endeavors. The Assassins Guild makes a return once again. Though it’s unclear if Connor can recruit new assassins, he can surely use them for more than killing and making diversions. They can help him sneak into enemy encampments and even help him blend with crowds. Connor will also have the aid of a few historical figures; these include the great George Washington, Lafayette, Benjamin Franklin and General Lee.

Assassins Creed III Overlook

Next is the world in which Connor thrives. He doesn’t have the luxury of city life like Ezio and Altaire did. A third of his missions and quests are in the unexplored wilderness of the Frontier. This harsh, unknown woodlands looks like it can be tough when you’re trying to navigate through it. (thanks to the new AnvilNext Engine) It looks like there will be some small settlements dispersed throughout that will have some side-missions available to you, and maybe a few enemy encampments waiting to be infiltrated will be sprinkled in there too. My main concern with the concept of the Frontier was that it would be incredibly unexciting like the Kingdom in the first Assassin’s Creed, but it looks like it will be full of life and things to do.

All of Connor’s attention won’t be focused on the Frontier though. He will be able to enter colonial Boston and New York. City life will supposedly be more dynamic than ever, bustling with activity. However, under the seemingly pleasant exterior, is the tension of being under British rule. It’s this tension that Connor can use to his advantage to take care of business. Citizens will scratch your back if you scratch theirs. For instance, a citizen can lead a guard that’s impeding Connor’s progress into an alley where Connor waits around a corner to ambush him. The aid of citizens will certainly give you more options while infiltrating, and maybe they’ll even assist you in a fight? That would be helpful, but sometimes you need to make a run for it. Ubisoft has worked to make entering buildings seamless by taking away the loadtimes. Some will still need that pesky load, but many buildings you can just run straight through to escape a pursuer. (i.e. chasebreakers)

The free-running, gap jumping, faith leaping way of travel is back. Connor has the same graceful parkour-esqe way of travel as his predecessors. Though as seen previously in the trailers in this very article, he has to use trees to utilize stealth in the Frontier. Though it looks like it may be a bit of a pain, Ubisoft assures that it will be as easy as traversing rooftops. He won’t be restricted to just trees though; Connor will be climbing up cliff faces and any natural foot hold he can find. It will be up to the player, as always, to find accessible climbing points.

Assassins Creed III Tree Sneak

Stealth looks like it will be a lot more user-friendly than previous games. It could get to be a pain sneaking from crowd to crowd without guard’s awareness meters turning red and blowing your cover. (Especially when you’re trying to get 100% synchronization) Now it only takes two people for you to blend, and there are checkpoints from which you can restart from, so you don’t have to start the whole mission over.

What would Assassin’s Creed be without some awesome new vehicle to drive, fly, or shoot from? In Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood you drove Leonardo Da Vinci’s tank prototype, and fired a machine gun on a carriage. In Revelations you went Burnout style with a carriage and got crazy with a flamethrower on a boat. In Assassin’s Creed III you’ll be put in charge of a ship. This isn’t going to be a one-time sequence as in previous titles though. There will be plenty of missions ranging from navigating through a tight space, to finding and taking over an enemy ship. So we know that the missions won’t be repetitive, but how will the ship handle? Though Ubisoft said that they were considering going for a simulation feel, they decided to go with the tight and responsive controls they’ve always used. That’s all well and good, but let’s not forget to mention firepower! Your ship will be equipped with two options; a swivel turret for more delicate precision, and the broadside cannons for devastating your opponent in one swift, well-timed, shot. The cannons will have 3 different options as far as ammunition; chain shots for taking out masts, grape shots for blasting soldiers off the enemy vessel, and last but not least, heat shots—literally flaming cannonballs. Selecting shot types will be the same as selecting weapons in Connor’s quick-select.

Assassins Creed III Naval Battle

Before I get to multiplayer, there’s one thing I haven’t mentioned; Desmond. At a Ubisoft press event, creative lead Alex Hutchinson says that Desmond needs to end. But what does that mean? Are they going to kill off Desmond, or simply end his side of the story? Maybe they’re tying the game up to be a trilogy. Only time will tell. One thing is for sure, there’s going to be more Desmond in this installment than any other.

Multiplayer

There were some rumors that there was going to be a beta, but in actuality there won’t be. Ubisoft is focusing on getting the final product out there. As for multiplayer itself, there will be many welcome changes!

 • The assassination and stun actions are now mapped to the same button. This gets rid of that pesky stun prompt that appears when the player hunting you is near. That way players can’t rely on that prompt, they have to rely on their reactivity.
 • There’s now an ambush bonus for those who prefer to intercept targets like in Brotherhood, rather than build up an approach meter in Revelations.
 • The matchmaking system has been revamped to make playing with friends in a group easier.
 • The map voting system will now offer more choices in its rotation, rather than different variants of the map you just played on.

Hopefully multiplayer will be just as fun as in Brotherhood and Revelations. It’s looking promising, that’s for sure.

 • Mayan Pyramid mission.
 • New multiplayer character: the Sharpshooter, 1 Relic, 1 Emblem, 1 Special Picture, and the Title of Jester.

Join or Die Edition is also available for pre-order.
